Total Virus Protection (a.k.a TotalVirusProtection) is a new rogue anti-spyware program, a fake spyware remover, which will try to trick the user into purchasing it’s "licensed version" by intimidating him with fake threats.
This parasite typically makes it’s way to the system by using Trojans, such as Zlob or Vundo, but can also be manually downloaded and installed.
Once inside and active, Total Virus Protection will flood the user with popups and fake system notifications, supposedly to inform him of an infection or multiple infections present on the system. This information may coincidentally be true, but Total Virus Protection has neither the ability to detect nor remove infections either way. This parasite will also hijack the browser and provide falsified system scan reports to further misinform the user. Upon convincing the user of the existence of an infection, Total Virus Protection will prompt him to purchase the full version, which is no more functional than the trial.
Total Virus Protection is a scam and should be treated as such: do NOT download or buy it.
Removal:
Kill malicious Processes from Task Manager:
- [random].exe
Location of the infection:
- %UserProfile%\Application Data\[random]\
- %UserProfile%\Application Data\[random]\.[random].exe
Registry Entries to be removed. (Take a backup of registry, before editing it)
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce "[random]"
Although it is possible to manually remove Total Virus Protection, such activity can permanently damage your system if any mistakes are made in the process, as advanced spyware parasites are able to automatically repair themselves if not completely removed. Thus, manual spyware removal is recommended for experienced users only, such as IT specialists or highly qualified system administrators. For other users, we recommend malware and spyware removal applications.
After removing all these files, restart your computer and the issue will be fixed. And don’t forget to do update your Security Software, check the Firewall Settings and the Operating System and finally do a full system scan with the Security Software.
