Avast Boot time Scan.

Avast Boot time Scan is a scan that runs prior to the Operating System fully loading drivers, start-up programs, or other places where viruses or Trojans can hide from scanners.

Start the Avast user interface from the Start Menu, by double clicking the orange Avast icon in the System Tray, or double clicking the desktop shortcut.

Steps:

1) In the left column, click the Scan Computer link.

2) Click the Boot-time Scan link.

3) If you are going to do this, do it right and select to scan all harddisks.

4) Since viruses do hide in .ZIP or other types of compressed/archived types of files, so be sure to also check the second box to scan inside of them.

5) Once clicking on the Schedule Now all you need to do is a system restart.  If anything is found during the boot scan the prompts are self explanatory, read them and follow their advice.

Note:  The boot-time scan is not available to 64-bit versions of Windows.

You can't select default actions for the infected items found by boot-time scan. This means that you will have to stand by in case something is detected and the scanner stops until you select an action.

You can't select default actions for the infected items found by boot-time scan. This means that you will have to stand by in case something is detected and the scanner stops until you select an action.
First of all, you can stop the boot-time scan at any time by pressing  ESC  key on your keyboard. Windows will start up as usual after this. But I do not recommend doing this unless you really need to - your computer might still be infected and you must reschedule the scan.
Check the status of the scan around every 15 minutes. If boot-time scan finds no infected items, Windows starts normally.
If a detection occurs, Avast! Free Antivirus will ask for action. Always press 4 key on your keyboard to move this item and all other detected items to Virus Chest.

But some types of archives are not well-supported by avast! Antivirus. In such case, moving the infected file from archive to Virus Chest fails and brings up an error 42111 - the operation is not supported for this type of archive.

As a packed file cannot run by itself and infect your system, you should press 7 key on your keyboard to ignore this one file (all other actions except "Ignore" would fail, too). Do not select any other action, especially "Ignore all" - this would apply the ignore action to all other upcoming detections and leave your computer infected!
Again, press 7 key on your keyboard to ignore the packed file.

You might have to repeat the Ignore action for several files in archives
